Weekly photo challenge: Leaf a comment, will you?

How the leaf actually looked.

Can you believe how the green life is slowly retreating from the leaf as it dies?

Leaf again.

Let’s play with the green leaf photographically-speaking, shall we?  How can we renew this dying leaf?

Inverted colors leaf

Oooo, look at the pretty colors one can create!  Lookin’ new to me.

Cross-purposes leaf

How can a leaf be at cross-purposes? (A photographic term, of which I know nothing.) Doesn’t this sound intriguing?

It’s almost as if renewal and death walk hand in hand.  One can’t really exist without the other, philosophically speaking, can they?

Spring never renews without autumn’s death.

Duo-tone (wildly crazy hippy leaf)

Ohmygoodness, who knew there were hippy leaves hanging out in the woods?

Probably tree huggers!!

**Leaf a comment–if you like!**

P.S.  The Weekly Photo Challenge is Renewal.  OK, some of you might think that a dying leaf is the OPPOSITE of renewal.  But I think that when we artistically create with images we are renewing nature–giving it a second birth.

That’s my story and I’m stickin’ with it.

Leafing you now.  Love, Kathy

  1. What a creative response! How could we have the renewal of spring without the “death” of leaves each fall? ~ Kat

  2. Brenda Hardie says:

Kat makes a good point….how can we have renewal of life in the spring without the “death” of leaves in the fall? And your leaf pictures are so interesting…my favorites are…the first one of course, the real leaf….and the cross-purposes leaf (I love the warmth) and the duo-tone is just plain fun. 🙂

  3. Awesome post and pics

    Needed this today!!

  4. lisaspiral says:

Renewal in the reuse recycle sense certainly. Also renewal in the sense that the dying leaves room for new growth. I love the story either way and the art is fun.

  5. New or Renew…that is the question only you can answer. See how easy that is? 🙂

BTW, I got a new assignment up which is only for the month. Check it out!

  6. P.j. grath says:

Do stick with that story. It’s a winner.

  7. Heather says:

The first one is definitely my favorite. And if you had told me that life was urging its way into that leaf, I might have beleafed you.
“Till forever on it goes, through the circle fast and slow.” CCR agrees with you about death and renewal.

  8. Looks like you had fun with Photoshop, or whatever picture-enhancing program you used. I love the ‘hippy leaf’ and your story of renewal. 🙂

  9. beadstork says:

That is a very interesting looking leaf. And it was too corny to resist – I had to “leaf” a comment!

  10. Joanne says:

Fantastic, Kathy! With photography, nothing ever really dies, does it? The photos we have taken can resurrect our memories in an instant. 🙂

  11. sybil says:

    You’re a very punny person.

  12. Barb says:

Oh – you’re starting to experiment with the editing buttons. Life will never be the same. You better leaf them alone, or you won’t have time to write.

  13. Elisa's Spot says:

I think it’s renewal as the decay becomes food and more life springs forth!

  14. I saw a show long ago that showed through a leaf’s ‘aura,’ that as it died, the aura grew brighter on the living leaf beside it. Yes, renewal. Death leads to life. One leaf at a time.

  15. Connie T says:

Leaf it to you, this post is very creative.

  16. What a beautiful picture….all of them!!! I love what mother nature has done and I love all your many interpretations!! Kudos to you!!

  17. Stacy says:

Loving the leaf – yes, even a dying leaf symbolizes renewal. ❤

  18. Dawn says:

My favorite statement: “Spring never renews without autumn’s death.” True. How true.

  19. I think a fallen leaf is a great pick for a pic of renewal. After all the leaves must die on the tree and drop to the ground. In the spring the trees grows new leaves so that is (renewal). And, I will leaf you with that thought to ponder,or not!

  20. pix & kardz says:

Very creative. In fact I wood say you are barking up the right tree with this one! 😀

  21. john says:

I really like the original picture. It is quite unique, I have never seen a leaf do that

  22. bearyweather says:

Love your idea … I am looking around at my dark, gray, wet woods with dead foliage wondering how to capture “renewal” for my entry this week. I refuse to go into my photo archives, so I might have to spruce up the dreary, also .. thanks for the idea.

  23. Munira says:

    You have ‘The Eye’…… 🙂

  24. That is a very creative response to the Renewal photo challenge. I like how each leaf changes in a new life of its own. Well done Kathy.

  25. Isn’t it fun to play with photos? Good reminder to do it more often.
