Weekly Photo Challenge: One

One frozen apple

One frozen apple

One snowy apple.

One more Christmas appearing around the bend of this week.

One WordPress weekly photo challenge.

One happy blogger that her to-do list sparkles under control, as of early Saturday.  (Some commenters suggested she abandon to-do lists, but she couldn’t survive her part-time jobs without to-do lists.  They’re lifesavers, especially as she grows older.)

One quiet Sunday before family festivities begin.

As the wood stove warms the house this December, wasps fly out of the woodwork and lie dazed and helpless beneath the ceramic Christmas tree.

One wasp circles the kitchen light.

One love surrounds us all, wasp, apple, to-do lists, photo challenge and Christmas…if we but have eyes to see…

  1. Wasps in the house!!! in WINTER?!? oh dear oh dear

My downstairs is cleaned as of this morning. I even managed to get the salt mopped from the floor! It is 53 and the grass is showing through the melting snow!! I am very excited about this and I am considering it my Christmas solstice gift.

I like the one frozen apple.

    • Elisa, you wouldn’t believe all the wasps that have been crawling out of the woodwork in the last few weeks. They are so slow and confused and just sit around. Another one just crawled by the kitchen sink. Hope you enjoyed this Solstice weekend…sounds like a lovely gift to have received.

  2. Sounds like a lovely day! love and best wishes to you this holiday season!

  3. While the snow billows outside, it’s a great day to snuggle under an afghan with a good book and a hot cuppa tea.

  4. I can’t find the cord that lets my camera talk to my computer and the camera on my phone I’m not steady enough for. I’m glad you got your to-do list in hand. Love the lighting on the wasp.

    • Oh no, it’s a pain when we lose the precious cords, isn’t it? Feel so much more relaxed with a relaxed to-do list, lol. Glad you liked that little wasp fella. Or at least the lighting on him.

  5. Freezing rain here this morning and many things cancelled. Christmas wishes to you Kathy.

  7. Hello Kathy,
It’s snowing lightly here and dusting everything with fresh, sparkly snow :) Alex and I have been busy preparing Christmas goodies and I’ve been stitching my Dad’s gift for Christmas too. I hope you enjoy your snuggly day with Barry and take a few moments to realize how blessed you are, living in the northwoods and being loved by so many people ♥
I love your snow covered apple pictures and can almost smell the wonderful wood stove aroma ♥ (but you can keep the wasps lol)
Sending you big, warm Christmas hugs my dear friend ♥

    • Hey there, Brenda! I think your day sounded pretty snuggly, too. It’s been snowing here half the weekend. You are right, we should all take those moments of gratitude to realize how very blessed we are. P.S. You wouldn’t like all the wasps crawling around inside the house recently. Don’t know where they are coming from!

  8. Have a lovely time! It’s the best season….

    • Merry Merry Christmas, Sonali! I am glad you liked the apple pictures. Thought you might. If I have any time before Christmas will be taking some more snow pictures. So keep your fingers crossed!

    • P.S. We have made pies with some of these wild apples before. They are so delicious! These frozen ones, though, are not edible any more. You have to pick them before the hard frosts.

  9. A wasp…oh no. I would not like that. Have a wonderful Christmas.

    • Merry Christmas to you, Connie. You have NO IDEA how many wasps have been crawling around the house lately. We don’t know where they are staging their incoming route.

  10. Bzzzzzz. My cats would be hurling themselves into the air after that wasp.

    Stay warm my friend.

    • Oh do bring your cats over, Sybil. There are so many wasps coming out of the woodwork. You think they like the warm, or something. K’s cat would probably like the jumping challenge too. Not sure these winter wasps are capable of stinging.

  11. Glad your to-do list has made the leap to a been-done list ;)
As for that wasp, it and I would have words. Murderous words. It’s nothing personal, but in my house it’s literally me or them. Spiders I kindly move outside in warmer weather.

    • Heather, to say the to-do list is DONE would be a great exaggeration. I always have township and school chores on it. But it’s reasonable, manageable! You wouldn’t believe how many wasps have been appearing from no where. And then you have to worry if they’ll unexpectedly sting if they get alarmed. Not sure if winter wasps have the chutzpah to sting. But don’t want to find out! P.S. It would be quite the sight to see drunken deer behind the school. :)

  13. A lovely quiet blog before the Christmas hub-bub. Glad you and your list have made peace. I think my list for to-do out and about is complete, but now the inside-the-house list begins! Christmas dinner for 9 in a clean house must be accomplished! :-) I hope you have a lovely Christmas in the little house in the big woods.

    • Ahh, Karma, it was delightful when the to-do list quit its snipping and hullabalooing. I can’t imagine the stress of creating a big Christmas dinner. Will there be more than your immediate family there? We’re off to Georgia for the holy-days. If we can get out of here without a snow storm…

  14. We do have eyes to see, Kathy, but we need one, just one, to point the way. <3

  15. A wasp in the middle of winter??!! What do you do with them? Wasps and other biting / stinging creepy crawlies are NOT allowed in MY house!!
And to-do lists are definitely a good thing! I have a long one for today, so I don’t forget anything ;-)
Love that picture of the little snow covered apple :-)

    • Michaela, I’m afraid I’ve been killing those pesky wasps. They seem half-dead, anyway, and I am afraid one of us will accidentally touch or step on them. We have no idea where they are crawling in the house. Glad to hear you are a fan of the to-do list. We’re back from vacation and I’m not going to start a new one until the New Year. (Well, maybe not…)
