Fellow bloggers! Stop what you’re doing! Pry your fingers off the keyboard! Quit thinking about what you’re going to say next!
(clearing throat) Thank you.
It just hit me like a bolt of lightning this morning. We bloggers have to stop–right now–and give ourselves a few moments of congratulatory appreciation. Internal high fives. Give ourselves hugs.
We have DONE IT! We have helped revolutionize the world with our blogging! We are part of the common movement–Let the People Speak!–and we have done a mighty fine job of it.
Think of it, fellow bloggers. Think of the majesty of our world-wide revolution! Think of how much free speech is circling the globe on this worldwide web and WE are part of it.
Think about it even more. What if we got PAID for blogging? Some of us would be rich by now. What if we were paid by word, or by readership, or by thoughtfulness? What if we were paid by every time we taught somebody something? Every time we offered a kind word? Every time we explored an idea, gave joy to another human being, inspired another?
(OK, OK, what I truly believe is that we ARE paid by it. Maybe not in cash dollars, but in the joy of our self-expression. Every time we press the “Publish” button…heck, before that…every time we write a word or thought…our internal payroll clerk is handing us a check of good will, delight, satisfaction. Even when we’re writing things that may be gloomy, dark or negative, we’re still expressing free will in a world where that still counts, still may have power, still contains energy. Pay yourselves liberally today, fellow bloggers!)
Think of what we put out in the world. Think of how we are publicly expressing ourselves–and have to stand by what we share with the globe. Other people can share only to limited fellow beings and–hence–sometimes shield themselves from public ridicule and mistakes.
We share our not-knowing, our tentativeness, our mistakes with EVERYONE! We learn how to calm the wild beast commenter who criticizes. We learn how to honor all the readers who stop by, bitchy or loving. We learn how to dance with whoever stops at the doorstep of our blog.
Oh how we learn! We learn how to say something when there’s nothing to say. Or, conversely, how to share from our innermost convictions. We learn how to share with integrity.
We travel up the roller coaster of blogging and down the roller coaster of blogging. The winds are in our sails when we’ve written a satisfying blog and then we’re sitting dead calm adrift in the sea when we want more people to be reading. We learn to navigate through both kinds of waters: the kind where the waves are foaming and we’re struggling to hang on…and the times when nothing seems to be happening and we wonder why we’re blogging anyway.
We have learned to flow, or we’ve learned to condense information. We’ve learned to write better, or we’ve learned to express from our heart. No matter what we’re blogging about–if we’ve blogged long enough–we’ve learned something.
And we’ll continue to learn something each day we blog.
Therefore, dear blogger, sit up straighter at your computer. Feel the pride. Feel the joy of self-expression. Feel the way YOU make a difference.
Think about it. Really think about it today. Imagine giving yourself the biggest hug in the Universe. Hug yourself until some more words want to leap off the ends of your fingers and onto the keyboard and into the mysterious parallel world of Cyberspace!
Enjoy the fruits of expressing what has ripened in your heart. Enjoy the fruits of sharing with your fellow travelers. Do NOT underestimate yourselves.
No matter what: you will learn something about yourself and others in the act of blogging.
I salute you!
Thank you for your attention. You may go back to blogging now.:)
