I am soon headed to a “Destination Wedding”.
Can you tell how excited I am?
How many of you have vacationed at a “Destination Wedding” in foreign countries, unknown ports, mysterious locales?
My nephew and his fiance are getting married, come the end of January.
I am accompanying my parents to the wedding, a place which includes–I’m sure it includes–pelicans and dolphins and Spanish-speaking staff who will check us in with an “Hola! Como esta?” and I shall secretly melt inside because I adore the Spanish language, the language de espanol, the playas with golden sand, the gathering of loved ones, mi familia, wearing short sleeves in the middle of winter, temperatures near 80 degrees.
How soon can we go, por favor?
I am counting los dias. Uno, dos, tres…OK, the wedding is January 26th.
Prior to that I shall fly between the wings of a silver jet to Fort Myers Beach, Florida, to eat grouper with Mom and Dad before going on a “Kathy walk”–honest to goodness, that’s what my parents call it–near the bird sanctuary on the beach. I am driving them to the airport in Miami, following the siren-song of a GPS, even though I’ve never used a GPS and wonder if I remember how to drive in heavy traffic.
Prior to that, the long-range weather forecast lists “snow showers” every day in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for ten days, except Sunday. We’re actually anticipating another Winter Storm Warning tonight through Friday.
That’s why dreaming of a “Destination Wedding” occupies this blogger’s thoughts.
Pardon me. Time for a walk. I must fit into a bathing suit again, soon!
Hasta la vista!
(P.S. I am not yet revealing the secret location of the Destination Wedding. Those of you who Don’t Know may guess. If you know, please keep your lips sealed. P.S.S. I am not even sure if the Destination Wedding has free Internet yet. It does have Internet. Whether it is free, has yet to be determined. I have sent an email to staff begging an answer. They have not yet replied. Even if they don’t have Free Internet, I shall bring the trusty Canon Rebel and photograph. Yes, I shall.)
Hey, do you want to see a photo someone sent me that I love, love, love? It kinda describes how I feel about this upcoming trip.
Now tell me how you REALLY feel!! 😉 You’ll have a wonderful time – try to bring back some of the sunshine with you, let’s keep this mild winter going as long as we can. I’m looking forward to seeing the photos!! 🙂
Sounds like soooooooo much fun for you Kathy! I am so happy you get to go! Be sure to wiggle your toes in that warm sand for me and take loads of pictures to show us when you come home 🙂
We’re getting sideways snow here but it’s just enough to lightly dust the ground (so far…don’t think it will amount to too much) and the wind has picked up and the temperature is dropping…was 53 yesterday and right now it’s 28 and dropping. Tomorrow’s high might be 12 but the windchill will be much colder…brrr…yep….a tropical beach would feel delightful about now!
Have a safe and most pleasurable trip! ♥
Oh a destination wedding with family, will be so much fun !
My guess is Cancun. What do I win ? What do I win ?
You must be delighted! (And so must Barry with the forecast:) ) I did my time in Miami, and harbor no nostalgia, but I do enjoy the warmth – even as I sit here in giddy anticipation of our next winter storm. Good luck with the Miami Airport – your GPS should do fine!
That last picture is a really cool one, but my favorite this post is the gentleman on the bike. What a perfect caption, and how fortunate that you have it saved up just for this occasion!
Kathy, I’m so excited for you. I love destination weddings. Everyone is (usually) so relaxed and in such a lovely wedding/vacation frame of mind. Sharing your secret love of the Spanish language 🙂
Enjoy your snow knowing that soon you’ll be basking in the sun, probably drinking something tropical with one of those little parasols stuck in it. (Take me with you!!!)
What fun !! I’ve no doubt, you’ll remember your trip for a lifetime. Bon Voyage.
Have the best time. Soak up that sun and get in that sea. I’m not jealous, not a bit………!
Kathy – I can feel the grand excitement of your Wa-Hooing all the way down here in Crystal Lake. I think the vibration from your cartwheels are what caused a “ripple” across my cuppa tea this morning!
Kathy – Take me! Take Me!!! Don’t need to know where since it must have a beach and warm weather – I’m in!
Hugs
SuZen
How fun this will be.
Sara and I attended a destination wedding in Mexico a few years ago. Though, I don’t know if it’s a destination wedding if the couple getting married lives there, which was our case.
Hugs,
Kathy
What a great mid-winter break! (However strange this winter has been) Aren’t you glad the destination isn’t Nome 😉
Oooh… are you headed to Cuba? I’ve never been south of Arizona and would welcome the opportunity to attend a Destination Wedding. Quick! Some of my friends need to plan a tropical wedding NOW… and invite me, of course. 😉
Wait, wait, the good part’s just about to start and you’re going away???? Inscrutable are the ways of Yoopers.
ok, waiting to discover the secret…
I can tell you are hopping up and down inside (and outside) with barely-reined-in excitement, Kathy!
Wherever you’re going, it’ll be amaaaaazing… and whether they have free internet or not, you just HAVE to pack your Canon Rebel!
Happy TRAVELLING!
Sounds like a blast except the fitting in a bathing suit part. Wouldn’t be looking forward to that one!
Sounds just wonderful. That picture at the end is just perfect! That will be me in April! 🙂
I would be excited, too!! You ARE going to tell us where is, right? At least after you get back?
I wish I could put you all in my suitcase. OK, you’ll all be in my heart instead… Don’t know if I’ll be able to post from the Mystery Destination, or if we must wait until afterwards. I am counting the days until leaving…eleven, at least count. My beloved dad will be waiting at the airport in Fort Myers. It will be so wonderful to spend time with him and Mom. Thank you for your wonderful comments. Much love, Kathy
I have never been to a destination wedding…but I will adopt your nephew and his bride if you let me come! 🙂
How wonderful! This all sounds so exciting. I’ve never been to a destination wedding. I am looking forward to the pictures already!!! 🙂
Sounds like you’re in for a wonderful experience! Looking forward to pictures and stories from the Kathy walks!
do hope it’s warm… that last photo too cool… wonder how they did that
Thank you again. I am still counting down the days. Leaving for Florida on the 23rd…how many days is that now? **smile** Glad you’re all happy, too!
Oh you are so lucky. I went to a destination wedding two years ago, the resort was near Tulun Mexico, it was 8 days of wonderfulness. I so want to go back….Nothing better than a wedding on the beach, beautiful. Can’t wait to hear where you are going…Enjoy..
Christie, lucky you! It’s Tim’s youngest, Timmy, who is getting married. Scot is going and his daughter Tianna, and Tim’s other son, Lee, and my mom and dad and me! We’ll be there the 26th-31st, not sure if I’ll be able to post pics during or after we get back. Glad to see you.
Your excitement is contagious. It’s oozing out of my computer screen and making me excited too. 🙂
I just went shopping today! Now I’m even more excited…and a little more broke, too. **grin**
