PSSST!!!! Regular Blog Readers!!! Guess what’s happening?

Your blogger just wanted to share with you

Dear Regular, Faithful, Loving Blog Readers,

Pssst…it’s Kathy here.

We’re experience a slight tremor here in Lake Superior Spirit blog land.  It’s not a major earthquake, but the ground is shaking.

You want to know what’s happening?

Do you remember that crazy blog about being a blogging channel that I wrote  last weekend?  You recall  it, don’t you?  You haven’t forgotten already, have you?

I sat down at the computer without a thought in my mind and suddenly wrote a wild & crazy blog called “Don’t sign your blogging contract when you’re sleeping.”

Well guess what happened?

WordPress just sent a love note announcing that it was on Freshly Pressed, the front page of this wonderful blogging site.  (Today it’s the best blogging site on the planet.  They must not have read that disgruntled day when I wrote Freshly Pressed-less.  Must have been PMS, except, forget that, those days are long over.)

Just wanted to share with you Regular, Faithful, Loving Blog Readers so that we can celebrate together!  Because without your readership and commenting and presence, you wouldn’t have inspired me to write blogs like these and become Temporarily (oh-so-temporarily!) famous.

I am determined to handle this Maturely this time.  The last time I went wild & crazy and called my parents in Florida, my daughter in NYC and son in San Diego.  Plus announced to Barry every five seconds, “231 hits!  345 hits!  432 hits!” until he was ready to throttle said blogger.

This time I’m going to be mature.  You know:  What comes up, must go down.  All’s well that ends well.   I’m maturely focusing on this quote: Life becomes precious and more special to us when we look for the little everyday miracles and get excited about the privileges of simply being human.  –Tim Hansel.    **Thank you very kindly, Tim, for keeping things in perspective.  The EVERYDAY miracles are what count.  Let us all keep that in mind.

These other miracles are temporary, a flash in the pan, nothing to get flushed cheeks and wildly beating hearts about.  (Note: Mom, I am sorry about ending sentences with prepositions, truly.  It’s just that sometimes they seem to fit.)

I am determined to be mature, even though obsessively checking blog hits, because, well, you all know I can sometimes be slightly obsessed.  GUESS WHAT, faithful friends and family!!  Over 1,010 people have paused at this blog in the last couple of hours (make that 1,016! Oh LORD ALMIGHTY—1,075!)

Gosh, I was determined not to blog today.

But then someone gave the Blogging Channel an award, and how could I not share it with you guys?

Please share some of the excitement–I so credit all of you for inspiring me to blog day after day after day after day after day…

(1,165 hits!  How am I to sleep tonight?  Ohmygoodness!)

Although one blog commenter just snipped, ” A blog about blogging.  How original.”  Phew.  Thank goodness someone is keeping me in check.  May his blog be Freshly Pressed one of these days…and may he choose an original topic…such as…visiting Nicaragua?

  1. I just saw you on the front page a few minutes ago – I’ll give you a very small congratulations, I don’t want you to get a big head about it!! I will go ahead and do a little dance for you, though….. 😉

    • Kathy says:

Oh Holly, thank you for your small congratulations. Small congratulations are in order. I don’t want to get a big head. I want a small head. But I wouldn’t mind dancing with you!

  2. It is crazy what ends up on Freshly Pressed. Just as nutty as what flickr says is interesting enough to be Explored. All those great posts on your trip and wedding in Nicaragua with wonderful photos and they pick an essay you just popped out of your head for kicks. 🙂

Happy for you, girl! How many hits now? 😉

    • Kathy says:

Scott, Barry was bitching. He said, “All those posts with GOOD photos, and you get Freshly Pressed with those CHICKADEE PHOTOS WITH BLUE SNOW?” Tee hee. We never know. I can only hope some will pause at the Nicaraguan photos. Let me check hits. Gosh, I haven’t checked in five minutes. 1,305!!! (Excuse me. I am not minding my manners. Thank you.)

  3. Brenda Hardie says:

😀 Wow! Congratulations Kathy!!! I think you should celebrate and pooey on anyone who rains on your parade. I happen to think your blog is one of the best I’ve come across! Yes…honestly! You are entertaining, knowledgeable and so very thoughtful…it still amazes me how you are able to respond to every comment individually! Thank you for that by the way ♥ I am very happy for you!!! Party on my dear friend of the northwoods!

  4. Heather says:

Congratulations! I happened to like the chickadees with blue snow. After all, the snow DOES look blue, and I don’t have any chickadees eating seeds in my backyard. Only blue jays. 🙂 I agree that sometimes prepositions feel like the belong at the end of a sentence. I am also fond of beginning a sentence with a conjunction. I haven’t been Freshly Pressed, so what do I know? 😉 You must let us know the grand total for hits!

    • Kathy says:

Heather, have I told you recently how much I adore thee? (In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, of course). THE SNOW DOES LOOK BLUE! Thank you. Thank You. thank You. Do you want to know the hits as of 3:52 p.m.? Of course you do. 1,374!!! (I would go take a bath but don’t want to miss out on anything. Would you?)

  5. Jessica says:

Very good news Kathy! I’m still getting email notifications of your blog posts. I looked on with wonder when you showed up in Nicaragua on the same day that a co-worker of mine was vacationing in the very same country, what are the odds? And thanks so much for your lovely Christmas card….it was a blessing to me!

    • Kathy says:

Jessica, how sweet of you. That is such a synchronicity that your co-worker was visiting Nicaragua at the same time! I am glad you liked the Christmas card. I think of you so fondly… Thank you for pausing to comment.

      • OM says:

A very spiritually-advanced (IMHO) friend of mine visited Nicaragua recently too. It must need some new Lights!
Congrats on your 15 minutes of fame (over 1700 definitely counts as “fame” IMHO)
        Love, OM

        • Kathy says:

The “fame” may possibly last until early afternoon, OM. That’s when they put up a new group of highlighted blogs. This morning at 7:00 a.m. the count is up to 5,341 total in two days. (This is called going “mini-viral”…lol!)

  6. W. R. Woolf says:

    Congratulations! 🙂
May you be freshly pressed and keep your sleepfull nights in the future 🙂

  7. Congrats although I am jealous! I gave up the dream of being Freshly Pressed long ago. My blog will remain the little engine that couldn’t.

I’m really happy for you. It was a great post!

    • Kathy says:

Oh dear Lisa, that little Envy Spirit. Oh how I know that spirit! It is a crazy little fellow. DO NOT DESPAIR!! DO not think you will not Freshly Press. I have thought–sometimes every day for two years–isn’t this one “good enough”? And here, surprisingly so, comes the accolade. (If it was up to me, I would have picked some of the Nicaragua posts, but oh no, the Blogging Channel won. Let’s not be envious.) I LOVE your blog! Keep on blogging! You’ll someday be sitting here addicted the Freshly Pressed Hits, too.

  8. Dana says:

You are so deserving of this Freshly Pressed honor, Kathy! (The chickadees appreciate the kudos, too! They were tired of being overshadowed by gorgeous pictures from Nicaragua.)

Sometimes it’s the posts that emerge so naturally from out of ‘nowhere’ that offer the truest commentaries, no? Enjoy the ride and please keep us updated on your final hit count! 🙂

    • Kathy says:

Dana, I can not pull myself away from the Friggin’ Computer, oh no. Forget about dinner. Forget about that Friatta. Barry doesn’t need to eat tonight, does he? I am glad you Supported the Chickadees. They are so glad of your support. I am on this ride…would you like an update…one moment please…1,499!!!!

  9. Elisa's Spot says:

    Is the Conduit happy now?

  10. john says:

People keep telling me “Do what you truly love and success will come”. Words are one thing, but you are the embodiment of the words!

    • Kathy says:

John! You are the best! And those words are the Best! We all need to remember them…find what our heart loves and follow our crazy hearts…. hugs!

  11. CONGRATULATIONS Kathy! You oh-so-ROCK!!!!!

  12. Lynne Kovan says:

Fantastic, well done! You do produce a lot of really interesting posts, and certainly deserve recogition for that. I think it’s fine to let this go to your head…go on, shout it from the mountain tops!!

    • Kathy says:

Gosh, Lynne, thank you! I am shouting it from the mountain tops…sort of…at least from a very high hill! By tomorrow, if it’s still going to my head, tell me to straighten up!

  13. Susan D. says:

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! How kewl are youuuuuuuu? Congratulations, Sweetie! I’m excited for you, and hope you’re enjoying it and soaking it in and up and all around. Yah, Kathy, uh-huh, uh-huh … Yay, Kathy … boogie-ing around the living room and grinning ear-to-ear. Love you!

    • Kathy says:

Susan D, my goodness! Here I am trying to be all mature & grown up and look at you prancing all around the living room! (How I adore thee. Let’s continue to prance until morning! No, no, no. We want to sleep…let’s just prance until 9 p.m., shall we?)

  14. As my mother would have exclaimed, Hang on to your hat! Congratulations, Kathy! I can’t think of anyone who deserves the recognition more. 🙂 Hope Barry gets dinner and you get a good night’s sleep….

    • Kathy says:

Hi, Barbara. Hanging on to that hat but it’s windy here on the blog! We had a very interesting dinner. Not 100% vegan. First we sauted potatoes and peppers. Added eggs and tiny shrimp and cilantro to make a dish that we liked at a local restaurant. Very wild & crazy dinner for us! Thank you for the Good Sleep wishes. I will try to meditate and calm down…soon…

  15. Congrats! You so deserve this and I loved the blue snow and chickadees!
Keep up the counting and dancing!

  16. OMG! Freshly Pressed is nuts. The comments never stop. I was Freshly Pressed more than a year ago, but it was crazy amazing. I’m so happy for you, dear Kathy! You so deserve this!
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • Kathy says:

Kathy, OMG, squared! (I actually just left the computer for 20 minutes.) I know you know what this is like! May we all experience this thrill at least once–or six times–in our blogging lives. You’re next!

  17. Colleen says:

Congratulations Kathy!!! I knew something was up when I came in from a walk, turned on our computer and 9846 new e-mails came flooding in. Well, maybe not quite that many…..but the day isn’t over yet 🙂

Many cheers and a chamomile tea toast to you and those wonderful “I don’t think I have anything to say” blogs! Sweet dreams…..

    • Kathy says:

Dear Colleen, thank you! You had 9846 new emails? WOW! That’s more than I had. **grin** Although have had quite a few. Sorry to mess up your in-box! But, you know, that chamomile tea sounds lovely. Yes. Right now. Thank you. P.S. Any dream will be better than last night’s dream. I dreamed a tornado was coming. Come to think of it–a blogging tornado WAS coming.

      • Colleen says:

Kathy, I can’t think of a nicer reason to have an overflowing in-box. We get to share the love, at least I’m assuming, without reading, that it’s love being shared. At least it darn well better be 🙂

        What a prophetic dream!

  18. Fountainpen says:

Remember, I still use a fountain pen, so understand none of this
blogging stuff, except……..it makes you very excited and happy and I am
excited and happy with and for you!

    Fountainpen!

  19. DAwn says:

Wow! Congratulations! Don’t forget about all us little people now! Honestly I love it when you get noticed, enjoy!!!!

    • Kathy says:

Dawn, in a few hours I’ll be back to being one of the “little people”, so don’t worry. I promise it won’t go to my head! Thank you, dear friend.

  20. emaclean says:

Wow! Isn’t this the SECOND time you have been freshly pressed? That’s how I found you in the first place, way back when you were FP the first time. Or has it been more often than that, and I missed an even earlier FP? Seriously, it’s so nice to have found you and follow your wonderful blog. You words enrich my day.

    • Kathy says:

Dear Erin, that is such a good question. I believe I was freshly pressed 4-5 times before. Once or twice on the outdoor blog, two or three times on this blog…not sure. You know, if I meet some more nice readers like you, it will be so worth it! Your presence enriches MY day.

  21. rehill56 says:

You are truly deserving! You have a wonderful talent and a great mind for words and eyes for photos! Love them. Enjoy this! award!

    • Kathy says:

Thank you~~Thank you~~Thank you, rehill! I appreciate your compliment so much.

      • rehill56 says:

LOL…I loved reading the “and how are Barry’s knees anyways?” Oops! I got a kick out of reading my own name here. I just told my family that to get a perspective of your famousness that my blog has about 700 hits in 7 years! not 185 thousand! Keep up the good work! Ruth
        PS. Your photos are fabulous!

        • Kathy says:

It’s YOU! It’s Ruth! It’s not just any old rehill56! You should have told me when you first comment, said something in Spanish, anything! It’s quite all right that you asked about Barry’s knees, truly, honest. But it was also hysterically funny because you were the 42nd person who had asked about Barry during my three days of “fame”. So, Ruth, are you going to tell where your blog is? So we can read? P.S. Thanks for liking the photos, too. They like you, too.

  22. Congratulations! This is so exciting! Now you know what it’s like to have Freshly Pressed Shock Syndrome. Enjoy it! 😀

(Your post Freshly Pressed-less is how I found you and I’m so glad I did!)

  23. just found you from that front page, well done 🙂

  24. Reggie says:

Well done, well done! Soo excited for you, Kathy!

P.S. It’s quite okay to be checking the stats ALL THE TIME, and to hum and sing and dance for joy as they go up and up and UP and UP. In fact, I’d be dancing and cheering along with you, if I was there. 😉

    • Kathy says:

It’s OK, Reggie? Phew! Thank you…(Actually, I couldn’t dance as much as I wanted to last night cuz poor Barry had the flu. 😦 ) But that’s OK–he’s up and about and feeling better and went off to work, so there’s a Whole Lotta Dancing Going On around here today. (And I know YOU know all about this, as you’ve had this Freshly Pressed dance going on before!)

  25. Whoohoo!!! Congrats, Kathy! Well deserved! 🙂

    • Kathy says:

Michaela, thank you! It’s such a thrill when this happens…you know about the thrill, too! I remember that post about cars that hit the “big time” for you!

  26. flandrumhill says:

Kathy, even though it was *just* about blogging, I very much enjoyed your pressed post.

There were 9 muses in ancient Greece. There’s at least one more of them around today: the blogging muse.

Regardless of which one is riding your back, the muses are relentless and exacting taskmasters. (I can’t help but liken them to life-sucking vampires). The blogging muse will whisper in your ear: ‘ignore your spouse… what could he/she possibly know about stats and comments and like buttons and the joy of being freshly pressed… dinner can wait while comments are answered… sleep can wait while posts are written (and re-written)…

Considering the arbitrariness of the blogosphere and WordPress’ pressing practices, I’d say to hell with blogging for the sake of spending more face time with the family and the chickadees… if it wasn’t for those two fang marks on my neck 😉

    • Kathy says:

Dear Ms. Amy Lynn, I was happy that one of my writing posts were highlighted (even though the photos are sniffling now at their perceived neglect–silly photos!) Smiling at the vampire-like qualities and now running off to the mirror to look for fang marks! **Remembering fondly YOUR Freshly Pressed days** (Wonder if this is how the vampire sucks us in?)

  27. Kathy says:

5,413 hits since yesterday morning…for anyone who is counting. Not that I’m counting or anything. 🙂 lol!

  28. jeffstroud says:

    kathy,

I finally found this blog about your new found fame! It is great, this is how we add new readers!

    You deserve the praise!

  29. Robin says:

How exciting! Congratulations, Kathy!! I saw you on the Freshly Pressed page and was thrilled for you. Yay!! 🙂

    • Kathy says:

Isn’t it fun, Robin, when we see one of our blogging buddies on Freshly Pressed? Sometimes it’s just as exciting as when it’s our own. Thanks for sharing the joy. May your lovely blog get the distinction next.

  30. Sara says:

I am one of the hits you received by being Freshly Pressed and think your blog is just divine. I’ll be back, because anyone who hasn’t mysteriously disappeared while living in the UP is certainly worth a second, third, and fourth look. Congratulations on your bloggy accomplishment!

    • Kathy says:

Oh I am glad to more personally meet one of the Freshly Pressed hits! Gosh, I almost DID disappear in the UP the first or second year. In fact we tried to escape to Texas…but that was a blog I wrote last month or the month before. Have you been to the UP? Have you gotten lost in the woods? 🙂

      • Sara says:

Why yes, I have been to the UP. For me it was beautiful and terrifying all at once. I didn’t get lost in the woods, but kept seeing posted flyers all over the place of many, many missing people. Grown up man people! I wouldn’t leave my husband’s side for an instant for fear he would get abducted by the Grown Man Abducting UP Monster/Alien/Ghost. Luckily we both made it out unscathed. It was a very exciting visit!

        • Elisa's Spot says:

          Kathy???

Why have we not seen a blog about the grown mantype person abductions??

          • Kathy says:

Ummm, Elisa, I promise to blog about any rash of grown mantype person abductions! (It’s just that I live a sheltered life and haven’t lost any men recently…)

        • Kathy says:

Ummm, Sara. I am thinking really really hard about these alleged man people abductions. Really hard. All I can think of is when the guy when Alzheimer’s wandered into the woods…and sometimes someone falls through the ice and disappears when he’s ice fishing, but that hasn’t happened recently. Oh there are those deer hunters who go missing. They get lost and…well, hopefully, most of the times they are found!

Your visit sounds very exciting. I hope you blogged about it!

  31. susan says:

Yay for you!!!! I can say I knew you “when”…. haha!
    Hugs
    SuZen

    • Kathy says:

Ha ha, sweet SuZen! It has been a wild & crazy ride since yesterday. Things should be slowing down, as Freshly Pressed just put up the new famous blogs. Our posts from yesterday are relegated further down the page, but can still be viewed. Thank you & I could use a long relaxing hug. Or a bath.

  32. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed! I think you’re very witty and deserve the honor! 😉

    • Kathy says:

Dear Eagle-Eyed Editor, thank you! Sometimes a little wit does escape into the blogosphere. But only if it will make someone chuckle! (Which is often me.) Thanks again.

  33. Karma says:

Gee I feel like such a slacker-regular-reader-commenter! Showing up when there are already 88 comments in place! WOW! Congrats anyway! I’ve never been pressed, but I still get that bit of excitement when I see my blog hits for the day approach 100 (that’s a lot for me!) I may have even received a new reader from you being pressed – said she made her way over from here. 🙂

    • Kathy says:

There is no such thing as a slacker-regular-reader-commenter! (If there is, I am totally one. I am always reading late.) I love your blog, Karma. You know me~~it doesn’t matter if we have 30 readers or 300, our blogs are uniquely ours. Sometimes we feel more comfortable in the smaller spaces, more able to share. Thanks for your congrats and I hope some of these blog-visitors stopped in at your place.

  34. Dear Cathy, you are really a great writer. You gets us thrilled and eager to read more, Keep it up.

    just me
    xx

    • Kathy says:

Dear Destiny, how I love your name! I feel like I’m talking to Destiny (with a capital D) every time I type a reply. Glad you are enjoying. I have another blog in the hopper but am waiting for the excitement to die down before posting it. from just me too xx!

  35. bearyweather says:

Hey, I am late to your congratulations party … “Congratulations” … sorry, I have been … how did Karma put it … oh yeah … “slacker-regular-reader-commenter” I am happy for you. Your newly found fans are exploring your blog … so, I have benefitted, too by some new visitors this week who clicked on your link to me. thanks for sharing my blog.

Looks like you will be busy replying to comments for weeks 😉 one of the glories of being Freshly Pressed.

    • Kathy says:

No, no, no, bearyweather! There are no slackers among us, because if there are, I am one of the biggest ones. 🙂 Glad that some visitors have ambled over to your beary site this week. Guess what! I am almost caught up with comments. Of course, haven’t done anything else (besides work) for the last few days. My eyes don’t even know how to focus on the woods any more…

  36. Tammy says:

You so deserve it. I was wondering why I got so much traffic from your blog today. Enjoy Kathy!!

  37. Barb says:

Oh! My! Gosh! You’ve always been a celebrity to me, Kathy. Congratulations a million times over. (PS I hope your Mom doesn’t mind “over” at the end?)

    • Kathy says:

And you are a celebrity in my eyes, too, Barb. Always have been, always will be. (PS Mom hasn’t said anything lately. Perhaps she’s reconciled with. lol!)

  38. ....RaeDi says:

CONGRAGULATIONS FOR BEING FEATURED BLOG!!!! I just saw you featured! Love it, the trimmers and all… be careful on what you write about! Take care and make sure you have everything glued down, that coming from someone who lives in earthquake country! Our last one was toooo much! I wanted to move, we are still here! Have a wonderful day!

    • Kathy says:

Thank you, RaeDi! It was fabulous fun. I am still trying to adjust to a more “normal” blogging life after that wild & crazy blogging quake. Stay safe!

  39. M L Fuller says:

Hi Kathy- I just had the best time poking around on your blog! I stumbled upon it when I clicking on ‘writing’ as a topic just now, and yours was a featured blog. Then I read all your hilarious comments about checking #s of hits and so on. I love it! I do that, and get excited when ten people look at my blog! 🙂 I wanted to say a belated congrats on your freshly pressed post, and thanks for making me laugh and smile. Have a great day!

    • Kathy says:

Dear M L Fuller, your words filled me with great joy this morning! No congratulations are belated in blog-land when they’re coming from a heart that is laughing and smiling. I hope you have a great day, too! Hope to see you again.

  40. Christina says:

Major congrats, Cathy! You are a terrific writer so this kind of blog promotion is well-deserved!!
