Once upon a wedding…

Seunghye’s two-year old niece from Korea

Welcome to the wedding of our oldest child, Christopher, and his bride, Seunghye.

Please come in the Villa Mare and enjoy our celebration.  (I am so glad to have you readers with us in spirit.  It makes for more rays of love and connection, doesn’t it?)

See this little girl in her beautiful Korean traditional outfit over there?  See the little bunny she’s holding?  Barry and I bought a stuffed animal for the two little babies (this one and her little brother) at the bookstore of the University of California San Diego bookstore.

Looks like this bright-eyed girl likes it, doesn’t it?  She even brought it downstairs for the wedding.

Isn’t she adorable?

She’s shy, though.  It takes her a while to warm up to strangers, so don’t go expecting hugs immediately.  It took me a few days before I could pick her up and carry her around.

In the meantime, while you’re wandering around the Villa, please excuse me.  I must go get dressed in the aubergine mother-of-the groom dress.  It’s kind of wrinkly since travel, and we’ve been late arriving at the festivities.  Everyone else is dressed.

I certainly hope ironing is available.  Barry’s pants need pressing–and so does Kiah’s dress.

What shall we do?

In which Kiah’s boyfriend, Diaa, comes to our rescue & helps us iron. We like him a LOT.

Oh my goodness, what is this?  It looks like Diaa has been taught how to iron by his Egyptian grandmother!  Can you believe our luck?  He insists that it’s “simple” and so we give him our pants and dresses and, by golly, what kind of miracle man did our daughter discover?–he irons our clothes.

(Yes,  yes, I know how to iron. But when someone is offering–and it’s almost time for the wedding–would YOU say no?)

Look at the beautiful traditional Korean dress Seunghye’s mom is wearing. She is talking to my mom through a friend of the family.

Chris and Seunghye have hired a translator for the big day, so you can talk to her mom and dad and brother and sister-in-law and even the babies.

My mother thought that talking with Seunghye’s mother and learning more about Korean culture was one of the highlights of the wedding!

I was so busy mingling with the approximately 50 guests that it felt challenging to talk adequately with everyone.  You know how that is, don’t you?

OK, it’s time for the wedding ceremony to start.  Let’s all join together on the outdoor balcony overlooking the pool.  C’mon up–don’t be shy.  It’s very informal.  The bride and groom are going to exchange vows themselves (they have already been married before a justice of the peace) so it will just be a simple celebration.

Here comes the bride…

The groom informs us that we must all hum that famous bridal march as the door of the villa opens and Seunghye glows so beautifully as she walks toward Chris in her lovely wedding dress.

Bridal vows

They exchange their vows of love and commitment beneath the palm trees with all of us as witnesses.

You can tell their words come deeply from their hearts.

Love..

And now they kiss–and hug.

I’m crying.  Are you?

The happy bride and groom

Is this the little girl I carried?  Is this the little boy at play?

I don’t remember growing older, when did they?

When did she get to be a beauty, when did he grow to be so tall?

Wasn’t it yesterday when they were small?

Sunrise, sunset…

(Pardon me.  For a moment I am lost in the lyrics of Fiddler on the Roof’s Sunrise Sunset which played at our wedding, how many years ago…)

The happy mom and dad

Excuse me.  I am still caught in the throes of “one season following another, laden with happiness and tears…”

What kind of wisdom can I give them?  How can I help to ease their way?

Now they must learn from one another, day by day.

Chris gets our attention–it’s time for the toasts, speeches & stories

OK, enough Fiddler on the Roof. Christopher has an announcement.  (The photo makes me think he should run for President.  Doesn’t that look like a presidential waves?  Years ago a native American elder used to teasingly call him “The President”.)

He wants those of us who have been pre-assigned to read or say our toasts, stories or speeches.

First Ryan gives the traditional best man speech.  He teaches a speech class, so, boy, he better be good!  And, yes, he does beautifully.

Now I’m remembering how I met Ryan’s mom, Deb (who is here at the wedding with her husband Chuck, can you believe it?  And we have SUCH a fun time together, especially after the wedding, but that’s jumping ahead) when we were both out-to-there pregnant with our soon-to-be firstborn sons.

And how Chris and Ryan have stayed fast friends all these years and now go on elaborate hiking trips where they roast ducks over open coals and scale mountains and once one of their buddies axed his foot and Chris devised crutches from trees to get him out of the woods…but don’t listen to me yak on.

Ryan is telling you some of this now.

Chris introduces the best man, his childhood friend from the Upper Peninsula–Ryan.

Excuse me.  I am still singing that long-ago song.

Sunrise, sunset.

Sunrise, sunset.

Swiftly fly the years

One season following another

Laden with happiness and tears…

Ryan’s toast (I love the look on Chris’ face)

Ryan’s toast (I love the look on Seunghye’s face)

My dad has blessed the union with a prayer.  My mom shares a wonderful story about how her first-born grandson crawled into her living room and grabbed her Precious–and I mean Precious–Moment Wise Man from the manger back when he was a baby and emerged in the family room clutching her precious ceramic figure in his chubby hands.  She tells the most beautiful tale of how she learned over the years what was the most precious thing–more precious than a  Precious Moment–and that it was family that really counted, which meant more than anything.

(I hope I have that story right.  I was silently weeping during her story.)

OK, OK, you want to see the weeping picture, especially since it’s my turn to tell the toast…

Me toasting the bride and groom. I do not like this picture of me, but, heck, you want to see me crying, don’t you?

And, while, you’re at it, you might as well get your look at the aubergine dress because, sorry to say, there is not yet an entire photo of the dress from head to toes.  But you can see the color, right?  You can get the general idea, right?

Just a simple dress.  (Sometimes I am sorry that I tease you guys with long stories about something as simple as a wedding dress, and you get all excited to see it, and it’s just a dress.  Note to self:  do not tease readers so outrageously in the future!)

The happy wedding party!

Now we come the happily ever after part of our “Once upon a wedding”. Chris and Seunghye, all teasing aside, I do wish the best for you. I wish that your love flourishes through the years. I wish that you experience many good times, and that you grow closer to one another during your challenging hours.  I wish that you learn to communicate deeply and respectfully with one another–and to support one another through Life’s beauty, anguish, rawness and joy. As one sunrise follows another, may the strength of your commitment help you each in flowering in the fullness of your potential. I love you both. Thank you for your precious selves.

**And thank you, readers, for your presence in spirit at this celebration. I am feeling teary-eyed again at the goodness and possibilities of this life.**

P.S.  Thanks to Christina Hoheisel (remember her from the post Shanghai and away!) for so many wedding photos.  This post wouldn’t have been possible without you, Christina!

  1. Welcome home, and thank you for sharing your precious moments of the glorious loving wedding. Yes, you brought me to tears. I know exactly how you felt during the wedding, and I bet you cried while you were writing this post. Love does that to us – brings out our happy waterfall. Congrats!

  2. susanblake says:

How fabulous! You have teased us all with waiting to post these til I just couldn’t wait. Absolutely LOVELY! And that would include the teary women in the aubergine dress!
    Hugs
    SuZen

  3. Susan Derozier says:

Darn it Kathy. i had just put my makeup on and now it is all running all over the place. I will spend the rest of the day hearing “Sunrise…sunset” and seeing beautiful faces. This is truly lovely and I can see why you fell in love with that adorable child! What an amazing feat to bring together the groom’s best lifelong friend and his family who were your friends as well as the bride’s family from so far away. I am so happy for all of you and feel joy from your sharing. Best wishes to all of you!

    • Kathy says:

I swear that every one of these comments gets me teary-eyed all over again! I am so glad to have been able to share this special event with all of you. Really, really, honored. Thank you for your presence, Susan. We’ll sing together all day, shall we?

  4. KathUsitalo says:

What a lovely couple and concept for the celebration of a beautiful event. Congratulations!

  5. CMSmith says:

A beautiful wedding, Kathy. The bride is lovely. And I like the color of your dress. Wonderful memories of a great day, I’m sure.

    • Kathy says:

Christine, thank you so much for your thoughts. It was a wonderful day! Hard to believe it was so sunny and beautiful when it’s been raining off an on for almost a week at home. Thanks again.

  6. jeffstroud says:

I don’t think I have ever read such a wondrous story of a wedding from the presence of the mom! Beautifully done. Well wishes to Chris and Seunghye!

    • Kathy says:

Awww, Jeff, big hugs! Thank you. I feel exhausted now after writing with so much emotion. Must turn off the computer for a while and re-group! Love to you…and thank you.

  7. Thanks so much for sharing this lovely event. You truly captured all that is important about a wedding day with beautiful words and pictures (GREAT dress!!) Thanks, Kathy!

    • Kathy says:

Cindy, thank you. It was fun –and teary-eyed–to write this today. How do we ever begin sharing something as important as one of our children’s weddings? Glad you like the dress!

  8. lucindalines says:

Beautiful wedding and beautiful photos. Thanks so much for sharing.

  9. What a beautiful celebration! Seunghye’s dress is gorgeous – simple and classy (just the kind of gown I love), and Chris looks very distinguished! I absolutely love the color of your dress! I wore a dress that was almost that exact color when my husband’s sister got married. Now you’ve got me thinking about when my boys grow up and start their own lives….. I know they’re only 4 and 8 years old, but the time is going to fly by. When my husband and I got married, my father in law told us that during the ceremony, he closed his eyes (just for a few moments) and remembered his son as a child. The day is going to come too soon when I need to let go of them, and hope that I did my best to help them become the best people they can be. Chris and Seunghye look like they are going to have a beautiful life together – I wish them all the happiness in the world! ♥ Thank you for sharing the photos!! 🙂

    • Kathy says:

Holly, I read your comment with much interest. Yes, wasn’t Seunghye’s dress that simple and classy combination? You’ve described it beautifully. I think back to the time when our two were 4 and 8 years old. People would say the years would pass so quickly. I would understand it intellectually, but not with my heart. Sometimes the days seemed so very slow. And, yet, all these years later it looked like time flew! It really flew! And you WILL help them become the best people they can be, Holly. I do know it.

  10. Susan D. says:

Awwwwww … sniffle, snort, … awwwww … insert quick laugh along with the tears about Christopher’s looking Presidential … sniffle, wahhhh, awwwww …. oh, my goodness, how utterly lovely. All of it, all of the participants, all of the beautiful photos … the celebration of this new union of love. Sniffle, snort, wahhhhh …. Thank you for inviting us to share the joy. Big hugs! .. sniffle.

    • Kathy says:

Oh, Susan…all those emotions…tears amidst laughter, all of it. Kind of like life itself, yes? Glad you really FELT the joy and feelings of all of it. And I am betting you can remember the wedding of a certain daughter of yours, too…

  11. Heather says:

What a beautiful post Kathy. So many fine details. Chris really does look Presidential and distinguished. Everyone looks so lovely. You must be such a proud mom. Best wishes for the bride and groom. May their life together take them to wonderful places.

    • Kathy says:

Heather, I’m not sure Chris is presidential material, but he sometimes has that look about him! I am a proud mama. A teary-eyed one. A very happy one. Thank you.

  12. love love love this-it is like we were there with you but did not have to dress up and wear heels – beautiful bride, handsome groom – you did good there by the way

    • Kathy says:

OK, LouAnn, I am glad you loved this! But speaking of heels, do you remember that I bought those wedges to wear for the wedding? Should have solved the heel problem, right? WRONG! I have black-and-blue bruises on each big toenail from those shoes!! Still! I have never had bruises on toenails before. What’s life coming to? Is this more information than you wanted to know?

      • on thehomefrontandbeyond says:

No because I share your shoe problem – I still believe that heels were made by men who hate women and now we will add wedgies to that category

        • Kathy says:

I laughed OUT LOUD at your addition “and now we will add wedgies to that category”. Hysterical! I think men think they’re sexy and have never worn them to see that they’re like stilts on drugs. ha ha!

  13. Val says:

Lovely photos, lovely emotions, and a lovely family – your son and his new wife, and yourself and the whole caboodle! 🙂 Hugs, Kathy. Thank you for sharing your moment.

  14. Dawn says:

Pass the tissues – just lovely.

  15. Stacy Lyn says:

How beautiful this post is – everything about it: your words, the photos, the feelings evoked. I’m so happy for you and your flock. Life is beautiful. ❤

  16. sonali says:

Wow!!! I’m feeling so emotional! I wish the Bride & the Groom all the very best & lots of happiness throughout. May God bless them abundantly. They look so happy together. I love her dress! She looks so pretty..
I’m glad to see the wedding pictures, I wish there were more. 🙂

    • Kathy says:

Oh, Sonali, I am so glad. Yes, may they be blessed abundantly. There will be lots more photographs once the professional photographer posts them, I hope. Until then we’ll have to wait. So glad you enjoyed.

  17. What a beautiful gathering — simple and focused on what really matters. Your recap of the gathering is wonderful, but the relaxed, happy (and happy-crying) images of the participants and guests attest to this even more strongly than any words could. You looked lovely — great color for you. 🙂 ~ Kat

    • Kathy says:

Yes, my friend, that was true. It was a very simple wedding. No frills. I was glad to borrow Christina’s photos (and some others) to share with all of you. Tee hee, thanks for liking the aubergine. I think it looks more “purple” in these pics!

  18. What a beautiful wedding! Congrats to all! 🙂

  19. Carol says:

I am so glad you’ve shared this lovely lovely wedding in this lovely lovely setting with us. So much happiness on those faces – and yes, some of the faces are damp, but the joy is not dampened. “Sunrise, Sunset” – such an appropriate song for the occasion!

    • Kathy says:

Carol, I did not know I would be sharing the Sunrise, Sunset song in this blog until it began appearing in my mind with its poignant lyrics. So appropriate. I am glad you enjoyed this wedding celebration.

  20. I couldn’t read this without tears, either! What a handsome couple Chris & Seunghye are and I wish them much happiness as they travel along the journey of their life together now. Your blessing for them is perfect and deeply moving, Kathy. Seunghye’s gown is so simple, sweet and lovely, so very lovely. And you look gorgeous in your aubergine dress and the traditional Korean dress Seunghye’s mom is wearing is stunning. What a joyful union of two wonderful families!

    (Diaa is a keeper!)

    • Kathy says:

Barbara, so glad that you cried, too. (Is that a terrible thing to say?) Your blessing in your comment is beautiful, too. As for Diaa, yep, he’s a keeper. Not only did he iron beautifully–he did it so matter-of-factly and with such good humor. He has a really good sense of humor once he gets comfortable.

  21. Brenda Hardie says:

What a beautifully simple ceremony ♥ Chris looks distinguished and Seunghye looks positively radiant. They both look very happy and so in love. I adore the little niece dressed in traditional Korean attire and the bride’s Mother in her traditional dress. Beautiful. And you, my dear, look so pretty in that purple color! The song “Sunrise Sunset” is stuck in my head now and has me thinking about future weddings for my sons…”laden with happiness and tears” ♥

    • Brenda Hardie says:

      ps…I agree with Barbara…Diaa is definitely a keeper! 🙂

      • Kathy says:

Very simple, Brenda, but beautiful in its simplicity. We thought the traditional outfits were such a lovely touch. As for that purple dress–I THINK it worked. Wish I could have shown you a full photo. But maybe it’s just as well that none turned out! (Well, to tell you the truth, a couple turned out. But the accompanying people in the photo would have KILLED me if I showed you all…) Will tell K to keep Diaa.

  22. How beautiful!! ♥ I love weddings…and that dress looks really nice on you 🙂

    • Kathy says:

Thanks, Michaela. Glad you enjoyed the wedding! And thanks for the dress compliment. It’s so hard to find a dress when your child is getting married. Just you wait and see!

  23. Oh my gosh, Kathy – this is precious, indeed. Absolutely precious.

I oh-so enjoyed looking at, and re-looking at the photographs sprinkled throughout the story you wove of this incredible day shared with family and friends.

And your toast under “the happy wedding party” photo. I was fine until then. That’s when I cried…

    • Kathy says:

Awww, Laurie, you cried, too! I love it when you guys cry with me. Happy blogger. My mom just emailed that they loved the blog(s). Oh goody. Goodnight, my friend…and thank you.

  24. john says:

That definitely was no cookie cutter wedding. Those are the best when it is built around their personality and style. It may have been simple, but it was so elegant. They seem so comfortably authentic. What a wonderful way to start their lives together.

    • Kathy says:

Nope, no cookie cutter would have cut out THIS wedding cookie, John! They put it together themselves and did a darn good job. It was “authentic”. Such a good word to describe it. Thank you!

  25. Karma says:

What a beautifully simple ceremony. I love the bride’s dress and what I could see of yours! The aubergine is a lovely color. If you hadn’t told us you were crying in that picture, I don’t think it would have been obvious. The photos of the bride and groom hugging after the ceremony are wonderful – love the truly genuine smiles. Thanks for sharing this special day in your family’s life.

    • Kathy says:

Thanks, Karma, yep such a weeper. (And I did NOT like that sideways view of myself and wouldn’t show it except you guys are such good friends that you don’t care, do you?) Yes, I think the wedding cut through a lot of complication and was just simple and unpretentious. Very casual–but lovely. Thank you again.

  26. lisaspiral says:

Looks like a beautiful wedding and what a great idea to hire the translator! You can continue to tease the readers, but then you have to make it a point to follow through and GET THE PHOTO. I love the color of the dress and since you were crying I understand why it slipped your mind. Best wishes to the bride and groom!

    • Kathy says:

Man, Lisa, I screwed up royally! First, I didn’t have a camera at the wedding because I was expected to do OTHER things like greet people, etc. Then I did have pics taken of the dress but the other people in the photo didn’t happen to be photogenic at that moment and they would have scalped me. So, I did not succeed… even though I tried… sniff, sniff…

      • lisaspiral says:

Wow, guilt anybody? You were the Mother of the Groom! You had jobs. You weren’t even sure before you left how “appropriate” taking pictures would be! I love the photo’s you’ve shared. Glad you had fun (and cried) at the wedding.

        • Kathy says:

Hmm, I had to search deep inside to see if I was really feeling guilt. Nope, not really. Just mild regret that I didn’t get a pic for you guys. (But I can see how you might take me seriously and think I felt guilty when reading my comment up above!)

  27. Joanne says:

Aww Kathy, the wedding story was well worth waiting for, but then I knew it would be. What a magical day you all enjoyed, with family, friends, beautiful weather, tears, toasts, a beautiful and stunning bride, the mother of the groom in tears, just the way it should be, and simply perfect for Christopher and Seunghye. I wish for the two of them, as the years unfold, a life filled with love and happiness. Thank you so much for sharing this special day in your lives. 🙂

    • Kathy says:

It was magical, Joanne. I can’t believe it all happened. Thank you for your good wishes for these two…and for being interested, and reading, and sharing your thoughts. You make me smile.

  28. Lori DiNardi says:

Your thoughts in italics are when you got a tear to glisten, oh, and also for that beautiful aubergine dress. All kidding aside, I love that color. All around lovely post. Thank you for bringing us along with you.

    • Kathy says:

Yep, Lori, I think that’s when my tears started glistening, too. I like that word “glisten”. Glad you liked the dress, even though I failed and didn’t bring back a complete photo to you guys. Thank you for listening and caring. Love, Kathy

  29. Dawn says:

I”m crying and I wasn’t even there! Congratulations to the happy couple, and to their parents, both sides, for raising such fine young people.

  30. OM says:

I’m not going to read all 60 comments but wow, mother of the groom, thank you for these pictures of a momentous moment of life, and since I now know what color “aubergine’ is I hereby declare it one of my favorites, and I am a color freak.
(There now we are smiling while the tears gilsten, both of us!
    Sniffle!!

    • Kathy says:

What, OM? you don’t want to read all 60 comments? lol! Are you truly a color freak? I did not know that about you. I am always very interested when people are sparked so much by color. Glad you now can add aubergine to your favorite list. Thank you!

  31. rehill56 says:

Thank you for sharing! I admit I had to work on being patient! lol. It was worth the wait. What a special time, beautiful couple, wonderful memories.

    • Kathy says:

Hi, Ruth, how are you? glad you were able to be patient while I begged, borrowed and stole the photos! It was a special time…thank you for being part of this in spirit.

  32. me2013 says:

First let me say congratulations to the happy couple, may happiness and good fortune follow you wherever you go, may love keep you warm and laughter fill your home.

I enjoyed the wedding, I had on my wedding hat and threw some rice around I will have you know. 😉

  33. Wowser! Looks like everybody had a good time, and that niece is adorable.

I also liked how they hired a translator. Very thoughtful.

  34. Munira says:

I love the simplicity and sincerity of the whole wedding ceremony! And the colour you’re wearing is gorgeous. Chris and his bride look gloriously happy. The Korean baby is ADORABLE!
As we say in Urdu and Gujarati (and of course, in Arabic)……Mubarak!!!

    • Kathy says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Munira. I love that you’ve taught me (and perhaps others who are reading the comments) a new word, today. Mubarak! Blessings to all…

  35. sybil says:

Oh Kathy, isn’t it funny that we cry when we’re happy. But lovely too. Many happy tears to you. One season following another …

  36. dearrosie says:

    Where to start…
You are a gifted writer Kathy. This was one of the most moving beautiful stories written by a mother at her son’s wedding. You were in control of our emotions from the start, so every time you cried, we cried with you…
Loved all the dresses – bride’s, her mother’s, yours. Loved the photos of Seunghye’s niece with the bunny. Loved the addition of the words from the song “sunrise-sunset”.
Thank you for sharing the wonderful occasion with us.

    • Kathy says:

Rosie, why thank you! What a kind thing to say. In fact your comment was extra-special all the way around… I am glad that you enjoyed, and that you cried, too. I feel like an entire blogging family surrounded this event.

  37. Even the mention of a wedding and two lives joined to start a new adventure together will bring on the tears. Your dress was a lovely hue and looks much better on you than my purple mother-of-the-bride dress did on me! Thanks for sharing those lovely photos. Please let Christina know she did a wonderful job! 🙂

    • Kathy says:

Dear withershins, thank you about the purple dress comment. I liked how it FELT on me, but not so sure if it was 100% right. But do we ever think that? Hopefully Christina will pop on by to read the blog this weekend (she said she would) so maybe she will see your comment. Thank you again.

  38. mom and dad says:

YOU ARE A WONDERFUL DAUGHTER !!!!!!! LOVE DAD

  39. Laurie says:

Loved looking at all the pictures and reading your blog!!! Beautiful!!!

    • Kathy says:

Laurie, remember that last family wedding in Nicaragua when we were all together? Love celebrating these weddings! (And it’s so good that you read and looked and enjoyed. Thank you!)

  40. Sid Dunnebacke says:

It’s nice that you’re so proud and happy and teary-eyed about your son’s wedding, Kathy. No it’s not – it’s beautifully fabulous. I don’t think my parents were jazzed about me getting married, so I appreciate happy celebrations of weddings. Seunghye is a lovely girl, and I think you’re lucky to now be part of a greater, multi-ethnicitied family. I mean, how cool is it to get first-hand experience of another culture and learn everything you will!

    • Kathy says:

Sid, I am sad that your parents weren’t jazzed about you getting married. 😦 Why can’t things be just how we want them, all the time? (lol–that never happens…) I do love being part of wider greater family on Earth. It makes me think that peace might be a possibility. Thank you.

  41. Marianne says:

Congratulations on your son’s wedding, Kathy! This is so beautiful! Wishing all the very best to the happy couple. Thanks very much for sharing this precious moment with us.

    • Kathy says:

Marianne, I am glad you were able to stop by our family wedding and enjoy it. Still hard to believe it happened just a couple weeks ago. A couple of weeks ago today!

  42. Sara says:

There are lots of happy people depicted in this post ~ such joy! I hope the bride and groom have a lifetime of love and happiness with each other and their beautiful families. Congratulations!

    • Kathy says:

In retrospect, it is so fascinating to see so much joy on all our faces. You don’t always notice it while you’re there. And yet the pics are proof. Thank you, Sara, for pointing that out!

  43. Teary-eyed, yes.

What a beautiful celebration. Thank you for sharing it.

  44. What a lovely wedding! They (and you!) look so happy!

  45. AnnieR says:

Thank you for allowing us to be late to the party! That’s the perfect kind of wedding in my book-relaxed bride and groom, family and friends in attendance and no drama! Loved the color of your dress-excellent choice…

Woo hoo, a guy who can iron! I think you’ve hit the jackpot with the significant others your children have chosen!

    • Kathy says:

Annie, no latecomers here! All are welcome, especially when you agree the aubergine was an appropriate choice, lol. And my goodness, who would have ever thought we’d get a boy that could iron to help us out? I’m still in awe about it!

  46. Colleen says:

Kathy, what a beautiful wedding! Such precious moments as our sons and daughters marry, so many emotions. You have a lovely family! Congratulations to all of you. xox

    • Kathy says:

Ahh, dear Colleen, precious moments indeed. “And now they must depend on one another, year by year…” Oh gosh, I hadn’t thought of that song for days. Now you’re getting me going again!

  47. Robin says:

I’m all teary eyed, but in a good way. A joyful, happy way. Congratulations to all of you!
You all look beautiful, but I particularly want to point out that you, Kathy, make your “just a dress” look beautiful. 🙂

    • Kathy says:

Why, Robin, I love the way you compliment! **happy smile** You know the good thing about coming back to this blog post again and again? Reliving the memories of our wedding weekend!

  48. Barb says:

Oh, gosh, I’m all teary-eyed, too, even though I’m only reading about it after the fact. The part about them being so little and then all grown up really gets to me. May Chris and Seunghye be each other’s soul mate through all that Life offers them. I wish I had some rose petals to throw.

    • Kathy says:

Barb, I really, really missed you recently and wondered: WHERE IS BARB? She would understand about this wedding…and what it meant… My gosh, we should have all had rose petals to throw. Or at least palm leaves… Thank you, my friend.

What a beautiful wedding, Kathy! I would have been bawling, so I actually love seeing that photo of you giving the toast. (Your dress looks amazing, by the way.)

You can see such joy and happiness in everyone’s faces. All the best to the newlyweds!

This is the sweetest comment, Dana! We could have bawled together. 🙂 What a kind compliment on the aubergine dress, as well. I am smiling right now on this snowy November morning, thinking back to six weeks ago…

  50. And now it’s December…and the lovely lady has probably packed away the ever so lovely aubergine “ordinary” dress in a box filled with white tissue paper, tears, memories to savory again on yet another day.
Mazel Tov! to the bride and groom (seems to fit after crying all the way through 101 comments) and to their respective families!

    • Kathy says:

Linda, psst, a little secret. I bought the aubergine because I couldn’t bear to pack anything in white tissue, being too much a practical sort. The other option is to give it away so some other one could wear it. It really was quite an ordinary dress. Did you really cry through all the comments? My goodness! I was probably crying at Les Miserables last night while you were crying through wedding comments. Kleenex?
