I suppose you’ve heard the rumors.
That I’ve been living a double life.
On the one hand Kathy sits here in the woods practicing Presence and meditating and watching the snow melt during our latest warm spell.
On the other hand Kathy is–are you ready for this?–in Nova Scotia.
I kid you not. (Read on. You can determine for yourself how much of this is “real” and how much is blogging tomfoolery.)
On November 13th, just as your blogger prepared to take a blogging break, one of her blogging friends sent an email. Sybil and Amy-Lynn and Lynne were preparing for a hike, exploring the woods of Nova Scotia.

Would I like to join them?
Well, you all know how blogging tomfoolery goes. I said yes. Sybil of Eastern Passage Passage then figured the distance between L’Anse, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula and her home town. 1,627 kilometers. Just a quick 31 hour drive.
She sent explicit directions with all the right turns and left turns and added a note: Hope you don’t mind being routed through Canada. My guess is you’re gonna be late for lunch. We may go ahead without you but will save you some nibbles coz you’ll probably be tired from the drive. See u soon. Sybil
See how wild and crazy we bloggers can be?
I played along because, well, (clearing throat) I can sometimes be wild and crazy, too.
The next morning she wrote: Just wanted to let you know that though it’s to be VERY, crazy, unseasonably mild today (17 C !) that it’s dropping by at least 10 degrees tomorrow. And bring a rain coat.
These Canadians! (They think we US folks understand things like Celsius and Kilometers…)
I passed the day in the relative quiet of our Upper Peninsula woods, thinking no more about my “imaginary” hike in the Canadian woods.
The next morning arrived an email from Amy-Lynn of Flandrum Hill, addressed to Sybil, Lynne of Five Good Things and myself:
Had such a wonderful time yesterday with you all.
Lynne, that was such a yummy lunch. Your soup and bread were perfect.
Thanks so much for your warm hospitality.
Sybil, thank you for picking me up (with coffee!) and driving us out to Hubley.
Kathy, so glad you could make the long trip from the UP. I don’t know
how you made it to Nova Scotia so quickly. Your presence certainly
did make the day an extra special one. You Yoopers are the best 🙂
The trail walk was so different from what I’m accustomed to in my neck
of the woods. It was great to see so many oaks,white pines, streams
and waterfalls. Sybil, please tell Trey my thumb wound is on the mend
and I’m considering carrying a big stick of my own the next time we go
on a hike together 😉

WHAT WAS SHE TALKING ABOUT?
Because all four of us are bloggers (I met Amy-Lynn bright & early during my year-long outdoor commitment and we enjoyed one another so much that we exchanged cards and gifties in the mail) I didn’t have to wait too long to discover more about the tomfoolery.

Click Sybil’s blog Kathy’s Day Out to read! Apparently the little blogging devils–I mean friends–created a stick-figure Kathy and fashioned a yellow head complete with hair, nose, eyes and mouth and–you’re not believing this, are you?–carried her around ALL DAY during their hike in the woods.

They even dressed her in hunter orange because it was deer hunting season. They kept her well hydrated during our hike. They talked to her, pointing out all the local flora and fauna.
Seriously, readers, this was one of the funniest blogs I ever read! Hysterical. (Probably because it was about me, or reputedly about me, anyway.) C’mon, if you haven’t clicked over to look at the pictures and read Sybil’s blog, do so now.

OK, all these weeks later, I’ve *almost* forgotten about my double life. Until Sunday. Apparently Sybil, Amy-Lynn and Lynne went out for a party and who did they bring?
Kathy!
Now I have pictures posted on my Facebook page titled (see below) titled –with Kathy Drue.

What a hoot!
OK, just wanted you all to know about this blogging tomfoolery (tomfoolery is my new favorite word). These three girls are a riot, are they not?
“I think this was treacle cake. Whatever it was — Kathy liked it !”
The story doesn’t end there. After Ms. Sybil posted the Facebook photos we began to message one another, quipping back and forth. When suddenly–the phone rang–and guess who it was???
Ms. Sybil! I can hardly imagine the tomfoolery she went through to find my telephone number. We enjoyed a lovely talk between Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
I’ll tell you, folks, nothing can be funnier–and stranger–than blogging at times, I swear it.

How fun!! I’m so glad you got to (sort of) visit Nova Scotia. It’s such a beautiful place (says me who fell in love with the highlands region of Nova Scotia back in June during our visit). I love that you have alter-ego out there going on hikes and dressing up for parties. 😀
I guess it’s the next best thing to being there in person, Robin. I swear these girls even made me speechless. I am afraid they’ll like the stick-figure Kathy better than the real thing.
How sweet (and silly) for your blogging buddies to bring you along. I know a walk in the Nova Scotia woods is right up your alley. You should absolutely go as soon as you get the chance. Maybe you’re double can stay in your little house in the woods and keep us updated while you’re away.

Good grief! We certainly are in the nut business! I guess tomfoolery by any other name would smell as fishy.
Unfortunately, I declined going on an adventure today with Sybil and Lynne because I’ve just got too much other ‘stuff’ to do. Forgive me Kathy, but this meant that you couldn’t go either as you are in my safekeeping over the holidays. (Sorry to say you’re spending the day in the closet!!) The good news is that you’re spending Christmas at my house. If you don’t create a racket in the closet and stay off Santa’s Naughty list I’ll even throw a few cookies your way:)

So that’s why Ms. Sybil or Lynne aren’t around? I emailed her first thing this morning and she didn’t reply.
As for being in that closet, do I have to write a blog post about coming out of the closet now, too? LOL! You guys are the funniest. Now pass me a cookie. I’ll be good.
You can rest assured that I would indeed be snapping the elastic bracelet around your wrist, as I frequently do to Sybil’s. I’m sure she and Lynne had a great adventure today while I managed to accomplish what needed to be done here. As for cookies, all I’ve got are some homemade ginger snaps right now. I’ll toss one over the border if Wayne hasn’t eaten them all yet.

Kathy, I had read her post, I think, it was yesterday and thought that is was pretty funny. I was looking her blog over to see if I had subscribed or wanted to follow her. Novia Scotia sounds really cold. It also sounds like a pretty place to be. What happened to your serious side or is it on a short hiatus?
Yvonne, I thought long and seriously before posting this. I mean, they really are blowing my cover by this kind of behavior. What’s a blogger to do whose funny bone is tickled so much? I HAD to post something slightly humorous. But it’s really all THEIR humor. I’m just reporting in a very serious manner. 😉
Of course. When you say your cover- do you mean as in where yo live or that “they brought out you humorous side?”
It matters not in what style you write. I will always read whatever you post. You are just that kind of person. I think warm, forgiving, kind, giving, well- you know all of the quaities that make for a good human being that you want to know even though remotely.
I read Arty old Bird and I think that you do as well. She wrote that she had begun blogging again because she missed the contact. I think that maybe blogging friends might be the best- although it is nice to have a best bud to chat with- I have one best friend that I have known for about 40 years but her health is bad and I am busy all the time. We seldom each other.
I meant they brought out my humorous side which was kinda covered up with this serious side lately. 🙂 Thank you for all your kind words! I do read Ms. Arty Old Bird as well, and enjoy her style. I think one of the reasons I blog is that sometimes in the past (and maybe a little still now) I can get lonely here in the woods. You guys make me feel less alone.

Don’t we love Miss Amy-Lynn? You and I have known her forever and a day! I’m starting to feel that way about Miss Sybil, too, although Miss Lynne is someone new.

I laughed so hard when Sybil posted her blog. You just never know what Nova Scotians will do. That’s what is so great about reading blogs where the bloggers have some contact with each other. It is super great. 🙂 I wonder where you will be next.

You were NOT wearing a skirt Kathy ! Sadly, you weren’t wearing pants either, just a long hunter’s vest. No waist for a belt and no shoulders for suspenders, what were we to do ?
As you now now, Lynne and I were out all day checking out the Fundy tides, beach-combing for kewl rocks and visiting the “Look off” at Blomidon. It’s awesome BTW.
Before you fret, we did as Miss Amy-Lynn but she was up to her ying-yang in Christmassy crafts.
Our climate. Winter’s average minus 1 or so in January and February in Halifax — just under 32 F to you. Small province with impressive range of climate zones. I get little snow here on the Atlantic coast but just a few km inland (a km is under a mile) there can be snow and cooler temperatures. We get a fair bit of rain. We’re not as mild as Oregon and not as cold as the “upwoods” … how’s that.
Please do come for a visit. We can send the other Kathy to stay in your place with Barry and keep him company.
Dear Syb, thank you so much for explainin’ about the lack of belt and suspenders. Curious minds wanted to know…. So glad you had a fun time today! Thank goodness Amy-Lynn was around because she said you were gone. I’m really sad you didn’t take me out of her closet. I sat there and she fed me cookie crumbs under the door all day, lol! But seriously, looks like you girls have entertained a LOT of people with this story! You get the Award for the Most Creative and Fun Minds of 2012!! What fun! It reminds me of the times that my west-coast nieces sent me their likenesses so we could have adventures with them, sending them back with diary entries and pictures of them ‘playing in the snow’, ‘creating snow angels’ and ‘chasing the cat’!
