Wanting to send this maple syrup to you.
Dear Friends,
This week I bought three pints of maple syrup. My friend, Patsy, and her family tapped the sap and boiled to create this delicious treat.
After reading yesterday’s comments from so many of you who unabashedly welcomed me back to the blogging world, I decided it might be nice to send you all some oh-so-sweet maple syrup.
However, sigh, that might bankrupt your blogger, so I came up with another plan. One lucky reader shall receive the syrup to drizzle on oatmeal, hazelnut pancakes and popcorn. (Yes, last night, to my husband’s great chagrin, I drizzled about a teaspoon on my popcorn. To die for, readers!)
Here are your sweepstakes rules: You must have commented on this blog at least twice in the past year. (This shall prevent fly-by lovers of syrup from snagging the prize!) If you’ve commented at least twice, please tell me you’d love the maple syrup in the comment section of this post and I shall put your name in a winter chook (Yoopers, or residents of the Upper Peninsula call winter caps or hats “chooks”) and shall–with intense ceremony–draw the name of the lucky winner.
Oh–this contest is limited to readers from the U.S. and Canada due to the aforementioned bankruptcy possibility. Will draw the name on May 10th and announce the lucky winner of Lake Superior Maple Syrup.

Yum!! My amish provider of the yearly maple syrup supply was present at the farmer’s market this morning!! I have had to go 2 months without it. (wails and gnashes–what is a gnash anyway?) I am very excited by the syrup, however his mother stated that the sap wasn’t running like it was last year and that they have a lesser supply. She then laughed at the dismay that must have crossed my face. lol
I do not need to win syrups. I just like to comment.
Thinking about running through the snow to the sauna in chooks and gutchies.

I would LOVE (♥♥♥) some maple syrup, Kathy! Please put my name in the hat. One of the things I miss about Ohio is the maple syrup. We used up the last of ours over the winter. I miss seeing the taps on the trees, too, but we have other things here that make up for it.

That’s a lovely thought Kathy! And it’s wonderful stuff…which of course I would enjoy. But I will be happy for any one of those above (and below of course) if they win. We need to spread the Michigan wealth! If I win it I will send it to my brother and his new wife in NC. He went to Michigan Tech and surely knows how special it is.

Oh yummmmy!! Alex and I would love to sample Michigan Maple syrup 🙂 I just pulled out a recipe for maple bacon waffles that Alex wants me to make soon. But even if we don’t win…I am quite sure the lucky winner will savor a taste from the northwoods of Michigan ♥ and be delighted!

Isn’t this time of year delightful just because of the syrup? We’ve bought from our favorite locals and have been enjoying it sparingly. Will have to try it on popcorn! Heather, you are so right. Maple syrup is surely one of the best gifts to come out of a northwoods spring. I must warn you about the maple syrup on popcorn, though. It is VERY sticky. Excessively sticky. But if you’re willing to be sticky–it’s delicious! And how cool that it’s your birthday next weekend. Happy pre-birthday. Your spirit shall help draw the winning ticket, yes indeed!
I always thought I didn’t care for maple syrup…until I started using it as the sweetener for my granola. I would love a chance to win your generously offered maple syrup, thank you!

Two or three families make it here, but they are very much just family operations. One of the three makes enough to sell a little bit – just locally – and the others just make it for gifts and their own use. I have a friend who goes down to Maple City to help them with their syrup making, and he usually gives me a bit. That’s how I learned how good it is baked in granola…must make use of such a thoughtful gift, after all!
I would love the maple syrup :p I think I have commented twice, I know I read it all the time, anyway, I do miss the U.P. We sold our cabin last October, sigh…….and we are in North Carolina now, the lovely western part, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. But I can still hear the waves of Lake Superior, and smell the leeks in the forest, and hear the lonesome howls of the wolves and see the night skies full of more stars than I have ever imagined. It was a blessing to have five years there, I will cherish those years and hold them close to my heart always. Thanks for keeping me connected through your blogs! Yes please Kathy! I would love to add my name. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted maple syrup from Michigan, only our Canadian brands. An even bigger treat would be having it delivered in person 🙂
Colleen, now I am wondering about the difference between Canadian and US brands of maple syrup. Would a *real* conoisseur be able to taste subtle differences? Would she know the difference between a syrup from Vermont and Michigan? What a fascinating thought. I know there is a big difference between between Grade A and B syrup, but know little about it. It all tastes good to me! As for delivering it in person…that would be so much fun!

Dredged the bread in a mixture with orange juice instead of just milk. Yum! Your name is in the contest.
Orion loves pancakes. I don’t eat them often and when I do I tend to throw in oatmeal, pecans and blueberries (for me not Orion) OJ in the French toast batter is hard to wrap my head around but I bet it’s tasty.
Whoever the winner is will be very lucky. I’d love to see if there is a difference in syrup from your neck of the woods and mine here in New Hampshire. Winner or not, I’m happy to see another post from you. 😀
Karen, it would be fun to do a taste test side-by-side of Michigan versus New Hampshire syrup. Of course, we’d have to make sure it was the same grade. I am wondering if true connoisseurs can tell the difference in localities during a blind taste test.
I was wondering the same thing. 🙂 Vermont thinks their syrup is better than New Hampshire and visa versa.

Kathy- I do believe that I have commented a few times on your blog. I would love to have some of your syrup. I have had maple syrup from Vermont, never.Michigan. I too, saw the article on the news about all the ice up there.and I am wondering are you threatened about it near where you live?

What a great idea Kathy. The part that got my attention was maple syrup on popcorn, who would have thought. I will pass on the drawing as I too have some fresh maple syrup in my fridge. I buy Vermont maple syrup.Keep it on hand at all times- maple syrup and honey I can tolerate. It dose not break down in the body the same as refined cane sugar.
