What do you think of these photographs, readers?
You’re thinking “Wow!” Aren’t you?
My daughter, Kiah, took these pictures during her jaunt through Spain two autumns ago. She lingered in Seville for a day and discovered these billboards scattered throughout the city.
Everyone who sees these photos is enthralled by them. (OK, probably not everyone. But lots and lots of viewers.)
What I want to know is this: Who the heck is the artist? A couple of us Googled and checked around the Internet and Googled some more, but we’re stumped. I’ll give you an imaginary high-five if you know the answer and can prove it with a link. 🙂
P.S. Kiah is high in the sky over the US of A right now, winging her way to San Diego to spend a week with her brother. I am so excited about their visit! Wishing to be with them. OK, if I can’t be with them, I’m anticipating stories and photos. Have a good time, kids. Your mama loves you.
Kathy.
I remember these photos from Gaia! These are great artistic, studio, surreal photographs… No we never did find out who the photographer is.
Jeff
Jeff, I thought of you immediately when publishing these. I KNEW you would remember! Isn’t it exciting that Elisa located the photographer?
They are very intriguing! Hard to search for without some key ‘Spanish’ words….
Mrs. uhdd, that was the problem! We didn’t have any key Spanish words. Luckily our commenter, Elisa, was ready for the challenge and found the artist. See the link below for all the details.
I remember these pictures from Gaia too! LOL My very favorite is the third photo with the long braid….there is just so much you can “get” from that one! Thanks for posting these….. I wish I knew the photographer!
That’s my favorite, too, Sue. You’re pulling my hair! However, I should have titled this blog: Ouch! You’re pulling OUR hair. LOL! Check out the link Elisa found with the artist’s name.
I will see if anyone in my twitter community knows anything. These are fascinating images.
Thank you for posting this on twitter, Terrill! About four folks did wander over to ponder. Did you see that Elisa found the answer to our conundrum? They are such fascinating images.
I didn’t until now Kathy… awesome Elisa! Way to go! Now I am going to wonder of and check out the websites… since I don’t have clue about what you might be talking about Kathy with your clues for today’s post:)
I remember them too and yay for more!!!
Calming down nicely searching for the artist, and finding new engaging things! Thank you!
JACKPOT!!! Here it is….Ruven Afanador is the name of the artist.
Here is a blog and information about his works.
And a direct link to the artist’s site….
Ohmygoodness Elisa I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU FOUND THE ARTIST!!! This is really wonderful. How did you do it? You are now my official go-to person when a Mystery Presents Itself! You may find yourself out for hire. OK, close your eyes. Imagine this high-five coming your way. Wa-hoo! You did it!
I love black and white photographs — can’t tell you why — just love ’em! And those really pop.
I love black and white photography too, Laurie. These are sooo cool.
They’re mesmerizing. I love the passion and the spirit of the flamenco that the artist/photographer captures in these. He’s an interesting man. Elisa, thank you for the links.
Kathy, I remember when our two guys started visiting each other (as adults) in different parts of the country/world. For some reason it always warmed my heart and reminded me what a blessing it is to have brothers and sisters.
Yes, it’s the spirit of flamenco which sings through (dances through?) these photos! What passion!
I am still so exicted about the kids’ visit. So happy that they are spending time together… (Chris visitied Kiah last May in NYC…now she’s repaying the visit.)
You are welcome!
Elisa,
Wow ! Good for you! Thank you so much these links are great!
Hurray for Elisa! I am still wondering how she discovered him!
You are welcome Jeff.
Kathy? I think I typed….black and white photography of women in black dresses in seville, and a variation or two of that, and in one of the hits were the words hair braided together or something…..when you first did these in gaia, i made myself have a migraine and searched for days straight lol
This one took me about eight minutes! I’m getting better at it, or was inspired or errrrrr something…
It’s much the same way that I write the Morning Trip. Concept, sound, or sight comes to mind and what quickly follows are the exact words to search and voila…the perfectly imperfect Morning Trip blog!
Boy that could be a problem!
Just got my hair cut…it is short like Laurie…
I am ready to wear those turtlenecks and hopefully no one will pull my hair…
Are you going to post a picture of you with short hair on your blog? I will go over and check soon. Hopefully no one will pull your hair. 🙂
They are very quirky aren’t they wish I knew who they were.
Fantastic to capture things like this when travelling.
June, did you see that Elisa (up above in comments) discovered the artist? She even put in the link(s) that we could follow to learn more about him. By the way, just reading the word “travelling” makes me want to get on the road again!
Wow! Imagine turning a corner and seeing these, hey? Ki must’ve been astounded! The facial expressions are amazing! Thanx, Elisa, you sleuth you 🙂
It does warm a momma’s heart, doesn’t it? When their adult babies actually want to be in each other’s company? Safe journey, Kiah!
Elisa is indeed a great sleuth.
I LOVE it that Kiah and Chris want to spend time together, Cindy. It’s the best feeling. I know she made it there safely (after about two hours of sleep the night before). It was fun to log into delta.com and watch her plane cross the country. Can’t wait to hear about what they do.
I am thrilled to have the connection to the creator of these wondrous photographs, his other works are extreme and over the top as well.
I am grateful for both you, Kathy for reposting them and Elisa for surfing to find the work and artist!
Jeff, me too! This was so much fun.
Great pictures! I have a question. Do you think that the first picture is two men dressed as women?
Well, Marianne…I have no idea! That never occurred to me until right now. Maybe? Maybe not? I wonder how we would know?
Should we take a poll?
Add to my previous comment, Do you think that the first and last pictures are of men dressed as women?
I just love it that there are so many possible stories and interpretations possible in these photos. Mostly they just make me smile! (And want to fiesta…)
Marianne, Kathy,
According to the blog about the work and artist, they are women! there is no mention of men dressed as women.
Thanks Jeff for checking that out.
I love watching movies where men dress up as women (Tony Curtis, Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams). I’ve seen some men that make beautiful looking women.
I think, if the two pictures (1,5) were men it would add to the artistry and beauty. But, that’s just from my perspective which can be strange sometimes.
Great blog, Kathy, much to ponder.
